Community Spirit Shines at Southport Food Festival

A Town Alive with Flavour, Music, and Community Spirit

There are weekends that pass you by — and then there are weekends that remind you exactly why you love where you live.

This year’s Southport Food Festival was just that: a full-sensory celebration of everything we do best. Victoria Park wasn’t just a venue — it became the heart of the town for three unforgettable days. From the moment the gates opened, it shimmered with sunlight, hummed with happy voices, and sizzled with the unmistakable sound of food made with heart.

Walking through the park was like weaving your way through a tapestry of culture, comfort, and creativity. I started at Just Wings, and it did not disappoint. Their spicy buffalo wings were next-level — crispy on the outside, fiery and tangy in the best way, and served with that no-fuss confidence that only comes from knowing you’ve nailed it. They were the kind of wings that make you pause, smile, and dive back in.

But the highlight for me? Without a doubt — the cherry crumble from Bar Crumble. It was a summer sensation in every bite. Warm, jammy cherries bursting with flavour under a buttery, golden top — all served with a dollop of nostalgia. It tasted like childhood summers and Sunday desserts rolled into one. I sat with it on the grass, sun on my face, and just let myself breathe it all in. And yes — I grabbed a set of cannolis for the road, because how could I not? Flaky, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. A perfect takeaway from a perfect day.

The whole day was dotted with golden moments like that. I stumbled upon the Bar as a Bus — a genius of a converted vehicle serving up everything from fruity cocktails to ice-cold non-alcoholic beers (my pick for the day). Perched on a bench nearby, beer in hand, I caught the strumming of a solo guitarist — part of the busking scene that drifted through the park like a summer breeze. His sound paired perfectly with the sunshine.

And then, the sound of Southport Rock Choir rose up — bright, coordinated, and utterly joyful. Their performance was more than entertainment; it was a reminder of what happens when people come together to create something bigger than themselves. Voices soared. People stopped to listen. It was connection in action.

What stood out above all was the togetherness. From Churchtown to Birkdale, the whole town felt alive. Local cafés, independent shops, and community hubs all felt the buzz. It wasn’t just a food festival — it was a reminder of what Southport can do when we show up for ourselves. When we celebrate what we already have.

This weekend proved that the town doesn’t need to reinvent itself — it just needs to keep backing its people. And on days like this, it already is.

To the organisers, vendors, volunteers, musicians, and every single person who turned up — thank you for reminding us that Southport is not only standing — it’s thriving.
