Obituary & Memorial Notices – Honouring Your Loved Ones
Losing a loved one is never easy, and sharing their memory with the community can be a comforting way to celebrate their life. At Southport’s Journey, we offer a sensitive and heartfelt obituary service that allows families to share their tributes in print and online.

In Loving Memory of Margaret “Peggy” Holloway (1938–2024)
Peggy Holloway was more than a lifelong resident of Southport—she was part of its very fabric. Born in 1938 in Churchtown, Peggy lived a life full of warmth, resilience, and service. She passed peacefully on March 18th, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.
A familiar face to many, Peggy spent over 30 years as the friendly librarian at the Birkdale branch, where she knew not only the names of generations of readers, but often their favourite books too. Her belief in the power of stories made her more than a librarian—she was a guide, a listener, and a steady presence in the lives of many.
Beyond her work, Peggy was known for her flower-filled garden, handwritten birthday cards, and being the first to offer a warm brew when someone needed a chat. Her volunteer work with the Botanic Gardens and her Sunday baking stalls at the local church fairs were just small reflections of her deep-rooted love for the community.
She is survived by her daughters, Claire and Jeanette, five grandchildren, and a lifetime of friendships woven through cups of tea, long walks along the pier, and laughter echoing across the Marine Lake.
In remembering Peggy, we don’t just honour a life well lived—we celebrate the quiet, beautiful way one person can help shape a town.
